19. Who got Jokes? Reed

I was down loading a dozen videos from the Eye Candy website to be viewed on the plasma screen in Percy’s office. I had already printed the bios. Broads from all over the country were trying to enter the Queen of the Pole competition. You would think this was a nationally televised beauty pageant. Midnight was the deadline and any video not posted before wouldn’t be considered. I asked him why Meesha wasn’t doing his grunt work. He looked at me like I was out of my damn mind, which was funny as hell, and we both started laughing. Percy was beating her ass and her back in on the regular, but he didn’t trust her has far as he could see her with his eyes closed.

It was Saturday morning; a couple of hours before our noon opening time, and Percy was scanning videos quickly, looking for two in particular. Once he found them, he asked if I would like to stay and watch. Percy could be an ass, and I would never be his woman, but he was a cool boss as far as I was concerned. We got along, and on occasion would have drinks and talk. He sat in a high back Lazy Boy and I sat on the adjacent love seat. He used his wireless keyboard to pull up the first video. He read the bio, handed it to me, and once I read it, he started the video of the routine. The female was a dancer named Blaze, and she danced at Lynx, a rival club here in Dallas. It was owned by a man named Quinn Pierce. There was a story that went with Pierce and his acquisition of the club. It had been a hostile takeover.

According to the gossip mill, the original owner had been a man named Lynox Webster. He had actually bought the vacant warehouse, designed the club and built Lynx into a top shelf gentleman’s club. He would probably still be the reigning monarch had he not crossed the wrong man; that man being Quinn Pierce. Unknown to and unfortunately for Webster Pierce is one of a powerful group of former kingpins turned legitimate businessmen with friends on both sides of the street. Long story short, Webster reneged on a deal with Pierce that would have benefitted them both financially. Instead Pierce opened Webster’s Pandora’s Box, and all kinds of things started popping up including a few dead bodies. Webster ended up in prison, and Pierce ended up with his entire business.

As I watched the Caucasian female dance, I had to admit she was good. Actually, she was better than good, she was great. I couldn’t help but ask:

“So Percy, are you going to let her in the competition?”

“You go jokes, huh? There’s no way I’ gonna allow any broad from Lynx into that contest. It would be financial suicide if she won; and I’m not blind or stupid. She’s good enough to do just that.”

I shrugged.
